Design of a brand new visual identity and website to achieve a stronger positioning in the scenario of Dutch policies regarding coliving initiatives


ColivingNL foundation existed for a while along with its efforts in understanding and exploring possibilities of coliving in The Netherlands.

The foundation strives to achieve more recognition and a better position for coliving initiatives in the local and national Dutch law. Its board protects the interests in regards of the topics that affect, or

may affect, the possibilities for coliving projects in The Netherlands. As coliving is reaching its momentum, board members of ColivingNL decided it was time to step up the game and get a stronger impact through a new look & feel that would be applied to their new website, social media channels, events, among other initiatives.


As the result of our visual exploration around the concept of coliving, we created a minimal geometric logomark which would serve as a unified symbol for the three main components of the ColivingNL brand: people, sharing and home.

Furthermore, we expanded this concept into a  

complete visual identity, with the purpose to be used on a variety of mediums and platforms.

Having a brand identity in place, we moved into a series of working sessions to determine the initial goals of the website and its objectives, which would lead the process of web design & development.

The brand concept idea was built around the main attributes of the foundation: People, Sharing and Home. ColivingNL investigates these concepts within the

coliving industry to foster a policy framework that is contributing to establish coliving in The Netherlands.

BRAND Identity

To represent the concepts of People, Sharing and Home, three symbols were designed. The symbol for People was created using a circle and a half diamond to give the idea of a human figure, while an intersection of two circles, in the form of a Venn diagram, was used

to represent Sharing by giving a sense of a mutual relation and union. A pentagon shape was chosen for the concept of Home, reminding a simplistic form of a house symbol. Merging these three symbols forms the logomark of ColivingNL.

To give character to the brand, the primary colour chosen was a tone of blue, next to black and white. Blue is perceived as a calming and inspiring colour,

it symbolises reliability, serenity and stability. Therefore, it was an appropriate fit for ColivingNL to help communicate the new brand identity.

The primary font chosen for ColivingNL was Poppins. Being a geometric sans serif font with circular forms it suits well the logomark of ColivingNL and helps in supporting the modern feeling of the logotype.

Poppins is nearly a monolinear font, it is very low in contrast and gives a neutral, but contemporary feeling, which aligns with the foundation’s attributes of openness, clarity and professionality.

Stationery materials have been created to support ColivingNL to spread its messages and interact with different stakeholders.

We provided the foundation with compelling business cards, brand guidelines and additional branded materials, according to the chosen brand identity.

The website of ColivingNL was created in alignment with its new visual identity and offers the first contact point to everyone who is interested in learning

about shared households and supporting coliving in different Dutch municipalities.

We believe that the brand-new identity of ColivingNL helps the foundation with further development as well as getting the exposure necessary to make a positive change in both national & local government policies, concerning living arrangements of cohabiting households in The Netherlands.

partners and platform members.

Cooperation with the SPX team was a super positive experience for the board of ColivingNL.
